| SEEKING
EMPLOYMENT
- AUSTRALIA |
Information
for
trained
medical
professionals
(Doctors)
including
those
in
Alternative
Medicine,
desirous
of
working
in
Australia
must
appear
for
the
Australian
Medical
Council (AMC) Examinations
in
order
to
practice
medicine
in
AUSTRALIA.
The
exam
is
in
two
parts.
Part
I
of
the
Clinical
Exam
is
the
multiple
choice
examination
questions (MCQ) which
is
a
test
of
the
principles
and
practice
of
medicine
in
the
fields
of
internal
medicine,
paediatrics,
psychiatry,
surgery
and
obstetrics
and
gynaecology.
A
number
of
questions
in
each
discipline
also
has
a
focus
on
general
practice.
The MCQ is
computer
based
and
is
in
two
parts
(morning
session & afternoon
session),
each
of
three
hours
duration.
Each
part
contains
125
questions
and
is
held
over
one
day.
The examinations are designed as a comprehensive test of medical knowledge,
clinical competency and performance. Both MCQ and clinical assessments are
multidisciplinary and integrated. The computer MCQ examination focuses on essential
medical knowledge involving understanding of the disease process, clinical
examination, diagnosis, investigation, therapy and management, as well as on
the candidate's ability to exercise discrimination, judgement and reasoning
in distinguishing between the correct diagnosis and plausible alternatives.
The clinical examination also assesses the candidate's capacity to communicate
with patients, their families and other health workers.
In addition to these components, each practitioner must also meet the English
language proficiency requirement (IELTS)
This means that applicants who satisfy State or Territory Medical Board requirements
for general medical registration or conditional registration to practise as
a specialist will no longer require a sponsor to migrate to Australia.

| SEEKING
EMPLOYMENT
- IRELAND |
One
must
keep
in
mind
that
Ireland
is
a small
country
and
it
would
be
saturated
soon.
It
would
be
wise
to
plan
well
before
embarking
on TRAS.
There
are
so
many
doctors
who
have
returned
back
home
from
UK
after
being
failing
to
get
placement.
People
must
learn
from
their
experiences.
I would
suggest
those
who
have
a little
knowledge
of
situation
in
Ireland
to
use
the
websites
to
get
more
information.
Touch
base
with
peers
and other
doctors
presently
in
Ireland.
Preventing
a similar
situation
that
took
place
in
the
United
Kingdom
in
the
case
of
PLAB
would
be
wise.
The
latest
news
is
shocking.
Almost
30000
Indians
are
devastated
by
the
approach
and
stand
taken
by
the
Immigration
Authorities
in
UK.
In order to work in Ireland a candidate would be required to pass the TRAS examinations
(Temporary Registration Assessment Scheme) consisting of two parts which is an
Assessment Scheme to determine whether or not a candidate possesses the requisite
knowledge, skill and language proficiency or has been exempted from the Temporary
Registration Assessment Scheme (TRAS) conducted by, or on behalf of, the Medical
Council. The TRAS assesses the ability of the doctor to practice
as a Senior House Officer, in a safe manner, under consultant supervision.
The TRAS Part I is an MCQ examination (Computer Based Questions & answers)
Part II OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) Please visit www.medicalcouncil.ie/education/tras.asp for
in depth information on the entire process.
There is a Part III OSCE.
